No. 19 Softball Falls at McNeese State, 4-3

BATON ROUGE — Casey Faile knocked a three-run home run in the seventh inning, but the No. 19 LSU softball team rally fell short 4-3 Wednesday at McNeese State.

Jessica Mouse drew a two-out walk to put the tying run on before Cowgirl centerfielder Liz Morvant made a running catch into the left centerfield gap on a Kirsten Shortridge line drive.

It was McNeese State’s (24-25) first win over LSU in 18 meetings. The Tigers (27-14-1) also had its 18-game winning streak on Wednesday’s dating back to the 2007 season come to a close.

Rachel Mitchell opened the frame with single and Annisa Young was hit-by-a pitch to set the table for Faile, who belted a 3-2 offering over the left centerfield fence.

McNeese State broke a 0-0 tie platting four runs in the fifth inning. After loading the bases on a single and pair of walks, the Cowgirls scored its first run via a wild pitch. A two-run Dani Price double and a RBI-single from Molly Guidry made it 4-0.

Faile dropped to 6-3 in the circle for the Tigers, while McNeese State’s Bethany Stefinsky struck out nine to improve to 15-13.

LSU closes out the home portion of the schedule this weekend against South Carolina. Saturday’s doubleheader and Sunday’s single game start at 1 p.m. with senior pitcher Dani Hofer being honored prior to Sunday’s game.

All three games of the Carolina series will be broadcasted live on The X 104.5/104.9 FM. Patrick Wright and Kent Lowe will call the action live from new Tiger Park.
