ATHENS, Ga. — For the first time in the 37-year history of the event, a complete round of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic was cancelled on Friday due to inclement weather. So for the LSU women’s golf team and 17 other teams it was a day to sit around and wait.
Rain began at approximately 4 a.m. on Friday and continued throughout most of the day. There was a brief break early in the afternoon and it appeared that play might be able to start at 3 p.m. However, the rain began again soon thereafter and continued until the course was ruled unplayable.
The first round is scheduled to begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. CDT on Saturday morning. The tournament will now be at most a 36-hole event. Live scoring will be available at LSUsports.net through Golfstat.com.
