Women’s Tennis vs. Vanderbilt Rained Out

BATON ROUGE — After two rain delays, the No. 20 LSU women’s tennis team was forced to postpone its match against Vanderbilt (4-2, 1-1 SEC).

With inclement weather in sight, LSU began the match slowly in singles, but the team started to rally back when the rain came. The teams were scoreless when the match was officially postponed. The doubles point was to be played in case of a tie-breaker.

“We were playing really hard and well. We got down and fought back and were in a good position. It’s pretty frustrating that we didn’t get a chance to finish because I was feeling confident with the way we were playing,” head coach Tony Minnis said.

On court five, Hannah Robinson took her first set 7-6 against Hannah Steinbauer in a back and forth affair.

Senior Staten Spencer cruised past Hannah Blatt 6-3 in the first set and was leading Blatt 4-3 in the second set on court six.

Vanderbilt’s 50th-ranked Catherine Newman defeated No. 12 Megan Falcon 6-3 in the first set on court one, but Falcon wasted no time in coming back to take the lead at 5-2 in the second set.

The Lady Tigers’ match against the Commodores will be rescheduled later in the season, if possible.

LSU (7-4, 0-2 SEC) will next battle No. 13 Kentucky Sunday at home in the W.T. “Dub” Robinson Stadium. First serve is slated for noon.
