SCHEDULE CHANGE: Due to rain in the Columbus area, LSU’s game against Georgia Tech has been moved to an 8 p.m. CDT first pitch.

COLUMBUS, Ga. — For the first time since the 2005 season, the No. 20 LSU softball team is slated to return to the prestigious NFCA Leadoff Classic this weekend at the South Commons Stadium.

The Tigers are 20-13 (.606) all-time in the tournament, including a 15-8 (.652) record under head coach  Yvette Girouard.

LSU’s first game of the weekend against Northwestern has been cancelled due to Wildcats travel difficulties leaving Chicago. The Tigers face off against Georgia Tech with first pitch on-tap for 8 p.m.

LSU (11-4) enters the tournament winners of five consecutive games and have outscored its opponents 33-6 during the streak.

Kirsten Shortridge headlines the offense and is on a five-game hitting streak, including three consecutive multi-hit efforts. She also has racked up seven RBIs during that stretch and is 9-of-10 in the stolen base department. Rachel Mitchell has hit safely in seven of her last eight games with four RBIs.

In the circle, Cody Trahan has been touched up for only a pair of hits in her last two starts, both victories. She has notched 14 strikeouts, including eight Ks against Southern Miss.

Brittany Mack has allowed only one earned run in her last 18.1 innings of work. She is the reigning LSWA Pitcher of the Week and was recently featured on ESPN.com
