BATON ROUGE — LSU junior forward Tasmin Mitchell was named the Southeastern Conference’s Player of the Week for his effort in helping the Tigers to wins at Georgia and at home against Alabama, the league announced on Monday.

Mitchell averaged 21.5 points, 10.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.5 steals in the two games this past week.

The Denham Springs, La., native made 12-of-16 (75.0 percent) of his field goal attempts in a 27-point, nine-rebound effort against Georgia. He registered his sixth double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds to go with four assists and four steals against Alabama on Sunday.

Mitchell, who has scored in double figures for 12 consecutive games, shot 62.1 percent (18-of-29) from the field for the week to improve his season shooting percentage to 54.5 percent. For the season, he is averaging 15.6 points per game and 6.8 rebounds.

The Tigers (19-4, 7-1), travel to Starkville on Wednesday to play Mississippi State University before returning to Baton Rouge on Saturday for a 6 p.m. game with Ole Miss in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
