Johnson Named LSWA Player of the Week

BATON ROUGE — Chris Johnson‘s two double doubles and Kristy Carlin’s 60 percent performance from outside the arc earned the pair of athletes the Louisiana Sports Writers Association honors as state basketball players of the week announced on Tuesday.

Johnson had back-to-back double doubles in LSU wins over Tennessee on the road and versus Arkansas that gave the Tigers the lead in the Southeastern Conference race. At Tennessee, the junior hit 6-of-9 field goals with 14 points and 14 rebounds to go with four blocks. He tied his career high of 7 blocks against Arkansas while hitting 7-of-13 field goals with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Southeastern’s Carlin averaged 16.5 points, hit 60 percent from 3-point range and was perfect from the line for the Lady Lions during their 2-0 week. Carlin tied a school-record with a 5-for-6 performance from behind the arc in Wednesday’s 71-54 win over Central Arkansas, scoring a career-high 24 points in 28 minutes of action. Though she only had nine points in Saturday’s 85-46 win at Nicholls State, Carlin had two key steals in an 11-0 run to close out the half that broke the game open and led to the program’s most lopsided conference win since joining the SLC.
