BATON ROUGE — Leading up to the upcoming 2009 softball season, LSUsports.net will get to know the 10 newcomers on the Tiger softball team. Today’s edition features infielder Ashley Langoni and pitcher Brittany Mack.
Langoni won back-to-back state titles in 2005 and 2006 at Pueblo West High School in Colorado. She picked up two First-Team All-State selections in 2007 and 2008 along with knocking a walk-off grand slam in her final high school win.
“I’ve moved from playing shortstop and third base in high school to the other side of the infield,” Langoni said. “It was a hard adjustment playing second base and first base at the beginning, but I’m starting to get the hang of it.”
Mack totaled a 60-16 career record with a 0.54 ERA over her four-year career at Westwood High School in Texas. She tossed six no-hitters and three perfect games in addition to being featured in Sports Illustrated’s Faces in the Crowd after striking out 39 batters in a single game pitching 21 innings.
“It takes a lot more focus to be successful in the circle than in high school where I could just throw pitches by players,” Mack said. “The competition is tough with every batter. You have to think about what pitch you’re throwing based on what type of batter you’re facing.”
LSU embarks on the 2009 season at the Paradise Softball Classic, squaring off against Oklahoma, UAB and host Hawai`i from Feb. 5-7. The new Tiger Park opens against McNeese State on Feb. 11.

There are a limited number of chair-back seats still available for $100, while reserved bleacher seating is $75. Fans are encouraged to get their season tickets to guarantee great seats for LSU’s marquee home schedule that features six games against teams that made the 2008 Women’s College World Series.
