BATON ROUGE — Leading up to the upcoming 2009 softball season, LSUsports.net will get to know the 10 newcomers on the Tiger softball team. The first edition features infielder Lauren Capello and outfielder Katie Guillory.
Capello was a three-time All-District First-Team pick from 2006 to 2008 and batted over .400 in each of her last two seasons en route to All-State honors. She graduated in the Top 20 of her class with honors and a 4.12 GPA.
“The biggest adjustment from high school to college softball is practicing full every day,” Capello said. “In high school, we didn’t have to lift weights and run on the same day that we practiced. It’s always been of dream of mine to come to LSU. The program has a lot of tradition and it’s our job to keep it going.”
Guillory notched a pair of All-District selections in 2007 and 2008. She hit .425 with 15 RBIs coming away with Daily Advertiser’s All-Acadiana and LSWA All-State accolades last season. She also tallied Academic All-State Honorable Mention.
“The dedication and commitment that it takes to play college softball has been my biggest adjustment,” Guillory said. “It takes a lot of conditioning and stamina to practice long, hard days. It means so much to me every time I put on the LSU uniform. I don’t take it for granted because a lot of people have worked hard to get the program to where it is today.”
LSU opens the 2009 season at the Paradise Softball Classic squaring off against Oklahoma, UAB and host Hawai’i from Feb. 5-7. The new Tiger Park opens against McNeese State on Feb. 11.
