BATON ROUGE — The weekly Louisiana Sports Writers Association Player of the Week honors for basketball resumed Tuesday after a holiday break and a record tying performance from McNeese’s Shante’ Perry and back-to-back 20-plus games by LSU forward Tasmin Mitchell earned the selection of the voting panel.

Perry, a senior guard from Cleveland, Texas, tied a McNeese single game scoring record and posted a career high 39 points to lead the Cowgirls to a 71-66 home victory over Louisiana Tech. Perry set a McNeese and Southland record with nine three-pointers, tied a school record by making 14 field goals in the game.

Perry also scored a game high 25 points in a 76-74 victory over Centenary. For the week she averaged 32 points and shot 50 percent from the field, including 72.2 percent from three-point range as McNeese is off to the second best start in the last 10 years.

Mitchell helped get LSU two wins over Louisiana-Lafayette and Southeastern Louisiana, to run their overall home winning streak to 15 games, the fifth longest in the 38-years of the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. Against the Cajuns, Mitchell scored a career high 25 points, making 11-of-16 field goal attempts and then came back against Southeastern to tally 24 points, making 9-of-16 from the floor.

Mitchell, a junior from Denham Springs, La., is back this season after missing all but the first three games with a stress fracture that required surgery.
