BATON ROUGE — LSU moved up three spots to No. 16 in this week’s Bowl Championship Series Standings which were released on Sunday night.

The Tigers, now 6-2 overall after Saturday’s 35-10 win over Tulane in Tiger Stadium, have a .3711 BCS average. The BCS formula is made up of two human elements ? the USA Today Coaches Poll and the Harris Interactive Poll ? along with the computer element – which includes six computer polls.

Alabama, this week’s opponent for the Tigers, is now the No. 1 team in the nation in all major polls, including the BCS Standings. Texas Tech is No. 2 in the BCS, followed by Penn State, Texas and Florida.

Outside of Alabama, Florida and LSU, the only other Southeastern Conference team in the BCS Standings this week is Georgia, who stands at No. 13 following its 49-10 loss to the Gators.

LSU remained No. 15 in both the USA Today Coaches Poll and the Harris Interactive Poll this week. In addition, the Tigers held steady at No. 15 in this week’s Associated Press Top 25, which is not part of the BCS formula.

LSU extended its streak of consecutive weeks in the top 25 as the Tigers have been ranked now for 93 consecutive weeks in the USA Today Coaches Poll and for 92 straight weeks in the AP Poll. The last time LSU failed to make the top 25 in either poll came following the Tigers loss to Texas in the 2003 Cotton Bowl to conclude the 2002 season.

Kickoff for LSU-Alabama is set for 2:30 p.m. from a sold out Tiger Stadium. The game will be televised nationally by CBS.
