PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. — LSU women’s tennis player Megan Falcon advanced to the semifinals of the consolation round of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships by sweeping both top-20 opponents in straight sets on Friday.
Falcon, ranked No. 15 nationally, defeated Duke’s 17th-ranked Reka Zsilinszka 6-2, 6-4 in the first round and then followed that by cruising past Fresno State’s 16th-ranked Anastasia Petukhova 6-3, 6-2.
“It was good to see Megan get back on track,” LSU head coach Tony Minnis said. “It was two great wins for her by beating two players in straight sets who are ranked in the top 20. I was extremely pleased with her performance.”
With the wins Falcon improved her career singles record to an astounding 71-11, including a 28-7 mark in tournament play. By beating two ranked players Falcon enhanced her record to 40-11 in her career against ranked opponents.
Falcon will take on Miami’s 25th-ranked Julia Cohen in the semifinal round at noon CT on Saturday. Cohen advanced to the semifinals by beating Duke’s Tara Iyer in three sets 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.
