Peterson Leads Men’s Golf on Day 2 at UCF

WINDERMERE, Fla. — After opening with a 2-over par 74 in Sunday’s first round, LSU sophomore John Peterson fired a 2-under 70 in Monday’s second round to lead the Tigers at the Isleworth-UCF Collegiate Invitational at Isleworth Golf and Country Club.

Peterson, who teed off from the back nine with the rest of the Tigers, got off to a blistering start with three birdies on his front nine before making the turn at 3-under for the day.

He then reeled off eight straight pars on his back nine before making his only bogey of the round on the par-four ninth hole to finish the day with an impressive 2-under 70. Peterson is in position to earn his second Top 10 finish of the fall season as he currently sits in a tie for 12th place on the leaderboard with a 36-hole score of even-par 144.

While Peterson cut four strokes off his score in the opening round, freshman Josh Jones improved three shots between the first and second rounds after firing a 1-over 73 on Monday. Jones sits in a tie for 30th place after two rounds with a two-round total of 5-over 149.

Freshman Sang Yi has posted back-to-back rounds of 4-over 76 to finish the second round in a tie for 59th, while sophomore Andrew Loupe added a 5-over 77 on Monday. Senior Jarrod Barsamian carded a 7-over 79 to head into Tuesday’s final round in a tie for 74th at 11-over 155.

The Tigers also saw an improvement in their standing after the second round as they went up four spots into 12th place in the team standings with a cumulative score of 22-over 598.

The defending champion and fourth-ranked Georgia Bulldogs have jumped out to a three-stroke lead after lighting up the course with a tournament-low 11-under par 277 on Monday to finish the day with a 36-hole score of 5-under 571. The Indiana Hoosiers are three shots back at 2-under par 574, while first-round leader Alabama trails by seven shots at 2-over 578.

Georgia sophomore Russell Henley is also in a position to defend his individual title as he fired a 5-under 67 in the second round to take a one-shot lead with a two-day total of 6-under 138. Jorge Campillo of Indiana is in second place on the leaderboard at 5-under 139.

The Tigers are paired with Clemson and Illinois in Tuesday’s final round and will tee off from the back nine beginning at 7:04 a.m. CT. Live scoring of the third and final round will be provided by Golfstat and can be found online by logging on to www.golfstat.com.
