AUBURN, Ala. — The 13th-ranked LSU women’s golf team rebounded from a disastrous opening round to rebound to seventh place after the second round of the Auburn-Derby Invitational Saturday at the Auburn University Club at Yarbrough Farms.
LSU improved its score 14-strokes from the first day, from 314 to 300 to move from 14th to a tie for seventh place with South Carolina at 38-over par 614. Arizona State moved from fourth to first with a four-under round of 284 to stand at eight-over 584, three shots ahead of first-round leader Virginia at 587. Alabama is third at 596 with host Auburn fourth at 602.
LSU sophomore Megan McChrystal has continued her fine play as she followed Friday’s 74 with a one-over 73 to stand in a group tied for eighth place at three-over 147. LSU also counted Saturday three-over 75s from Caroline Martens, LSU’s lone senior, and freshman Tessa Teachman and a five-over 77 from sophomore Nicole Crochet.
“This was a much better effort by our golf team” said LSU Coach Karen Bahnsen. “We knew we could be better than we were Friday and we certainly showed it. We can be better and we need to continue to move forward on Sunday.”
The final round is an 8 a.m. shotgun and live scoring is available through www. LSUsports.net and Golfstat.com.
