Placekicker David on Verge of LSU History

BATON ROUGE ?- It’s been nearly 10 years since Kevin Faulk became LSU’s all-time leader in scoring, moving pass Dalton Hilliard for the top spot on the list back in November of 1998. A decade later, it’s LSU placekicker Colt David‘s chance to supplant Faulk atop that list.

David, a senior from Grapevine, Texas, needs just three points to move past Faulk as LSU’s all-time leading scorer. In three-plus years with the Tigers, David has amassed 316 points, just a field goal shy of breaking Faulk’s current record of 318.

The LSU career scoring mark would be perhaps the greatest achievement for David, who already owns a total of six LSU kicking and scoring records.

David goes into the Georgia contest having kicked 45 field goals on 59 attempts for his career,  including 12 from at least 40-yards. He’s also connected on 175-of-177 point-after attempts, which includes a current streak of 86 straight without a miss. David’s 175 career PATs rank as the second-highest total in SEC history, trailing Florida’s Jeff Hall, who kicked 188 during his career with the Gators.

David’s 45 field goal rank third in school history, trailing David Browndyke (61) and John Corbello (50).

Six games into his senior season, David has been true on 7-of-8 field goal attempts and he’s been perfect on all 17 of his point-after touchdowns. David currently ranks second in the SEC in field goal percentage (87.5), fifth in field goals per game (1.4) and seventh in points per game (7.6)

David had his best season in an LSU uniform last year as he scored an SEC record 147 points in helping the Tigers to the national championship. David’s 147 points came via 26 field goals and 63 point-after touchdowns, both of which were single-season LSU records. In addition, David scored the first touchdown of his career last year when he raced 15-yards on a fake field goal against South Carolina in the 28-16 LSU victory.

For his efforts a year ago, David was named First-Team All-SEC by both the Associated Press and the SEC Coaches.

As a sophomore, David shared the kicking duties with Chris Jackson, but he still managed to kick eight field goals as well as 50 point-after touchdowns. He finished with 74 total points in 2006.

David finally got an opportunity to kick for the Tigers in 2005 when Les Miles took over as the head coach. As a redshirt freshman in 2005, David connected on 45-of-46 point-after attempts and he was 4-of-5 on field goals.

Now four years after joining the Tigers as a walkon in the fall of 2004, David goes into the Georgia game looking to become the most prolific scorer in the history of LSU football. All it will take is a field goal against Georgia, but for the sake of the Tigers, three extra-points would also do the trick.
