BATON ROUGE — LSU’s Tyson Jackson has been named the Southeastern Conference Defensive Lineman of the Week for his performance in the Tigers’ 24-17 win over South Carolina on Saturday night.
Jackson, a senior from Edgard, La., recorded three tackles, including a pair of sacks, in the win over the Gamecocks. As a unit, the Tiger defense limited South Carolina to 254 yards of offense, including just 42 yards in the second half.
For the game, South Carolina managed only 39 yards rushing, which included minus-13 yards in the second half alone. The LSU defense sacked South Carolina quarterback Stephen Garcia six times in the contest.
Jackson’s two sacks ran his season total to 4.5 and bumped his career mark to 18.5, which ranks as the eighth highest total in school history. Jackson has now recorded at least two sacks in back-to-back games against Florid and South Carolina as he currently rates No. 2 in the SEC total sacks.
For the season, Jackson has recorded 18 total tackles with 6.5 of those going for losses. He also has six quarterback hurries, one pass breakup and one fumble recovery for the 11th-ranked Tigers.
The honor for Jackson is the second of his career as he was named SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week for his play against Alabama during the 2006 season.
Other honors handed out by the SEC on Monday include: Georgia running back Knowshon Moreno as the offensive player of the week; Tennessee safety Eric Berry as the defensive player of the week; Vanderbilt punter Brett Upson as the special teams player of the week; Alabama guard Mike Johnson at the offensive lineman of the week; and Kentucky wide receiver/quarterback Randall Cobb as the freshman of the week.
