HOUSTON — Kylie Adamek and Sloane Mathis of the LSU women’s tennis team each won a consolation singles match on Saturday at the Holiday Inn Astrodome Rice Classic at Jake Hess Stadium.
Competing in Flight 4, Adamek defeated Frederique Sundstrom of Lee College in straight sets 6-0, 6-4 to advance to the consolation final.
Sloane Mathis knocked off Chelsea Creed of Lee College 6-1, 6-3 to advance to the consolation final of Flight 5.
In doubles, Mathis and Chandler Kleinpeter fell in two matches. The duo lost 8-3 to North Texas’ Olga Catalina Cruz Gomez and Narine Kazarova and fell 8-0 to Rice’s Emily Braid and Varsha Shiva-Shankar.
“Sloane and Kylie played a couple great singles matches,” LSU assistant coach Lisa Jackson said. “I’m looking forward to watching them compete in their respective consolation finals tomorrow morning.”
LSU will wrap up its stay at the tournament on Sunday with both consolation finals matches beginning at 9 a.m. Adamek will take on Samford’s Lindsey Mallory while Mathis will face Texas State’s Kiki Kruse.
