BATON ROUGE — Ten freshmen and one transfer will get their first action as Tigers when the LSU softball team opens up fall ball with the annual LSU Collegiate Classic that begins Friday at the original Tiger Park.
LSU will face Nicholls State in a doubleheader beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers will play twice on Saturday, facing off against Louisiana College at 3 p.m. and LSU-Alexandria at 5 p.m. On Sunday the Tigers will play Chipola Community College at 11 a.m. followed by a game against Louisiana-Monroe at 1 p.m.
All games will be open to the public, and admission is free.
“Our team is very excited to get started,” LSU head coach Yvette Girouard said. “We have so many new faces, and this is the reward they get for working hard the last three weeks. They have the opportunity to actually play games on the field and gain some experience. I am excited for them because this will be good competition for our team this fall and probably a better test than we have had in the past.”
On Saturday the other games in the tournament include Louisiana College versus LSU-Alexandria at 9 a.m., Chipola against Louisiana College at 11 a.m. and LSU-Alexandria versus Chipola at 1 p.m. After the two LSU contests on Sunday Chipola will square off against Louisiana-Monroe at 3 p.m.
