Football’s Johnson Named to Midseason All-America Team

BATON ROUGE — LSU senior offensive guard Herman Johnson has been named to the CBSSports.com Midseason All-America team, the website announced on Wednesday.

CBSSports.com announced an 11-player unit for both offense and defense as well as a four-player unit for special teams.

Of LSU’s Johnson, CBSSports.com said, “he’s one of the biggest offensive linemen in the nation and he anchors a team that ranks first in the SEC in rush average.”

In five games, the Tigers are third in the SEC in rushing offense with 181.2 yards per game but LSU is averaging a league-best 5.4 yards per carry. LSU running back Charles Scott is third in the league in rushing with 114 yards per game. In addition, LSU’s offensive line has allowed just six sacks this season, a figure that ranks second in the SEC.

Johnson, a first-team All-SEC pick a year ago, has started all five games for the 12th-ranked and 4-1 Tigers this year. He ranks second in the team in total snaps from scrimmage with 318 and he’s second on the squad in knockdowns with 19.

Johnson has graded out at 85 percent or better in four of five games this season, including a season-best grade of 88 percent against Appalachian State.

Johnson is one of three SEC players named to the offensive line unit as he’s joined by Alabama’s Andre Smith and Ole Miss’ Michael Oher.

Johnson and his LSU teammates return to action on Saturday when they travel to Columbia, S.C., to face South Carolina. Kickoff for that contest is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT and will be televised nationally by ESPN.
