EVANSTON, Ill. — LSU women’s tennis player Nicole Kantor won two matches at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center to highlight the Lady Tigers’ second day at the Wildcat Invitational on Saturday.
Playing in the consolation bracket of Flight B, Kantor defeated Wisconsin’s Katya Mirnova in straight sets 6-4, 6-1 before knocking off Oklahoma’s Maria Kalashnikova 6-1, 6-3.
Hannah Robinson also rebounded in the Flight A consolation bracket by beating Illinois’ Chelcie Abajian in straight sets 6-2, 6-3.
“We played better today,” LSU head coach Tony Minnis said. “We are making strides, and we competed well. We just need to close out strong tomorrow.”
In doubles action, Robinson and Whitney Wolf defeated DePaul’s Kirsten Gambrell and Selma Salkovic 8-2 in the Flight A consolation bracket. In Flight B, Kylie Adamek and Sloane Mathis won their consolation match in a tiebreaker 9-8 (3) over Minnesota’s Peta Forsyth and Liz Tusler.
Singles and doubles action will begin on the final day of the tournament at 9 a.m. CT.
