Four Tigers Set for US Amateur Golf Tournament

PINEHURST, N.C. — The LSU men’s golf program will have more players participating in the U.S. Amateur Championship than ever before as four Tigers are set to tee it up in the nation’s top amateur tournament beginning Monday at Pinehurst Resort.

Senior Jarrod Barsamian, junior Bryant Lach, sophomore Clayton Rotz and freshman Josh Jones will compete in the toughest 312-man field in all of amateur golf.

Rotz is set to compete in the third U.S. Amateur Championship of his young career, while the trio of Barsamian, Lach and Jones is making its first career appearance.

The 108th edition of the most prestigious amateur tournament sponsored by the United States Golf Association is set to run through Aug. 24 with the field being cut to 64 following two rounds of stroke play. Those who make the cut will then compete against one another in six rounds of single elimination match play to determine who will take home the Havemeyer Trophy.

Competitors will play one round of stroke play at both Pinehurst No. 2 and Pinehurst No. 4, while historic Pinehurst No. 2 will play host to the match play portion of the championship.

Rotz will be the first Tiger to tee off on Monday at 6:40 a.m. as he goes off from the back nine at No. 2, while Barsamian and Lach follow from the front nine at 7 a.m. and 1:25 p.m., respectively. Jones will begin his first round of stroke play from the first tee at No. 4 at 7:20 a.m.

All participants will switch courses for Tuesday’s second round as Lach will be the first Tiger on the course at 8 a.m. as he plays from the first tee at Pinehurst No. 4. Rotz will join Lach on the front nine at No. 4 at 11:55 a.m., while Barsamian follows from the back nine at 12:15 p.m. Jones will start his second round on the back nine at Pinehurst No. 2 beginning at 12:35 p.m.
