BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s tennis team opens the 2008 season ranked No. 19, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced this week.
The Tigers finished last season ranked No. 15 after posting an 18-7 record and reaching the NCAA round of 16.
Two Tigers were represented in the singles rankings. Senior Jan Zelenzy appeared at No. 88 and Senior Colt Gaston came in at No. 98.
LSU’s fall season was highlighted by newcomers Sebastian Carlsson, Julien Gauthier and Ryan Lissner. The three freshmen each finished the fall with a winning record in singles and doubles. Carlsson led the pack with a 10-3 record. Carlsson’s 10 wins is tied, along with Zelezny, for most on the team this year. Gauthier finished his fall campaign with a 7-4 record. Lissner completed his first semester of collegiate competition with a 6-3 mark. The Baltimore native has also been impressive in doubles with a 6-3 record while playing with three different partners.
LSU will open 2008 by hosting the SEC Coaches Indoor Championships for the second-consecutive year at the Health Club at the Hilton.
