FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. ? The LSU swimming team will open the New Year by facing Notre Dame Tuesday afternoon at the Schlesinger Aquatics Center at noon CST.
It is the second time the schools have faced each other on the men’s side. The Tigers and Irish first squared off on Jan. 8, 2007, with the purple and gold coming out on top by a 137-98 score. The women’s squads have never faced each other.
“Starting off the New Year with a ranked opponent is a great test for us,” said LSU head coach Adam Schmitt. “It will be good to see where we are as we move closer to the SEC Championship and NCAAs. I look forward to seeing how our team responds.”
The New Year’s Day dual will mark the first time the Tigers have competed since their strong performance at the Georgia Tech Invitational, where both the men and women’s team finished second in the seven-team contest.
The LSU men hold a 3-2 record in dual-meet action and are currently ranked No. 21 in the College Swim Coaches Association of America Poll. Notre Dame is ranked No. 22 with a 2-3 dual-meet record.
On the women’s side, LSU enters the dual-meet with a No. 24 ranking and a three-meet winning streak. Notre Dame holds a 1-5 dual meet record.
The LSU diving team returns to action Thursday, Jan. 3, at the Georgia Diving Invitational.
