Women’s Golf Finishes Fall Season with 10th-Place Finish

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The LSU Lady Tigers finished the fall golf season with a 10th place finish here Sunday in the UA-Ann Rhodes Intercollegiate at the Northriver Golf Course.

The 26th-ranked Lady Tigers were hung up on the number 20 all weekend in this tournament with LSU recording three consecutive rounds of 20-over par 304 to shoot a 60-over 912. Arkansas was the winner of the tournament with a 34-over par 886, six shots ahead of Auburn at 42-over 894 and it was two more shots back to Florida at 44-over 896.

Freshman Amalie Valle had her worst round of the weekend with a seven-over 78 but she was still able to secure a strong 13th place finish at 11-over par 228. LSU’s best rounds of the day came from freshman Megan McChrystal who got her game going on the final day to shoot a three-over 74 and senior Alexis Rather who had a four-over 75. LSU also counted a six-over 77 from junior Caroline Martens.

Stacy Lewis of Arkansas won the individual competition with a two-under 69 on the final day to finish at even par 213.

“I feel we’ve been able to blend our freshmen in with our veteran players and had some good rounds this fall,” said Karen Bahnsen, LSU’s head coach. “We are still a work in progress and will have plenty of work to do before we begin play in the spring. But we have the potential to be a good golf team, which we already have shown that ability being ranked 26th in the country, and we look forward to the spring and a very competitive schedule of tournaments that await us.”

Included in that spring schedule will be the annual LSU/Cleveland Golf Invitational at the University Club in Baton Rouge, March 14-16.
