BATON ROUGE — Swimmer Kevin Braud and soccer’s Malorie Rutledge were named the LSU Male and Female Athletes of the Week on Wednesday following a vote by a local media panel.
Braud helped LSU to a 204.5-94.5 victory over South Carolina last Saturday, winning two individual events and assisting on the Tigers’ 400 medley relay win. The senior from Destrehan, La., led a 1-2 LSU finish in the 100 backstroke with a time of 50.70. Braud then won the 200 backstroke with a two-second cushion time, finishing in 1:52.02.
Rutledge was instrumental in the Lady Tigers’ 2-1 road victory over Alabama on Sunday. The sophomore from Sharpsburg, Ga., scored the contest’s game-winning goal and was credited with the assist on the other as the Tigers’ improved to 3-1-2 in conference play this season.
Following her performance, Rutledge now leads the SEC in assists this season, with nine.
