PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. — LSU women’s tennis star Megan Falcon breezed through her consolation semifinals match while the doubles team came up short in the semifinals at the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships presented by Fila on Saturday.
Falcon, ranked No. 1 in the country, dominated the match from start to finish as she knocked off 15th-ranked Jessica Nguyen of Stanford 6-2, 6-3 to advance to the finals of the consolation bracket.
Falcon will now look to defend her title as she won the consolation draw at the All-American Championships last season.
“Megan played an outstanding match today,” head coach Tony Minnis said. “She was solid. In doubles we had opportunities in the match, so we need to do a better job of executing to get into position to win.”
Kristi Miller and Whitney McCray of Georgia Tech ended the Lady Tigers run in doubles, as the 3rd-ranked Yellow Jackets defeated the 13th-ranked duo of Falcon and Hannah Robinson 6-4, 6-1 in the semifinals of the main draw.
LSU will conclude its stay at the tournament Sunday when Falcon faces No. 8 Georgia Rose of Northwestern in the finals.
