PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. — Megan Falcon and Hannah Robinson of the LSU women’s tennis team advanced to the doubles quarterfinals while Falcon fell in her singles match at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships presented by Fila Thursday.
Falcon and Robinson, ranked No. 13 in doubles, dominated the match as they easily knocked off No. 22 Melissa Mang and Tory Zawacki of Duke 8-2.
In singles play, top-ranked Falcon lost her first round match to No. 20 Amanda Taylor of Vanderbilt 6-2, 6-3.
“In doubles Megan and Hannah played an outstanding match against Duke’s players,” head coach Tony Minnis said. “In singles Amanda Taylor played a great match, but Megan has an opportunity in the consolation draw to play well and hopefully knock off some ranked players.”
The road will not get easier for Falcon and Robinson as the duo will square off against the nation’s No. 1 doubles pair, Megan Moulton-Levy and Katarina Zoricic of William & Mary in the second round Friday.
“Megan and Hannah face a tough test because they get a shot at the number one team in the country,” Minnis said. “We’re excited for the opportunity to go out and compete.”
If Falcon and Robinson win, they will move on to the semifinals on Saturday against either Kristi Miller and Whitney McCray of Georgia Tech or Lauren Liu and Samantha Murray of Northwestern.
Falcon will try to defend her title in the consolation bracket Friday.
