BATON ROUGE — The LSU women’s tennis team suffered a Southeastern Conference loss at the hands of No. 2 Florida, 6-1, at the W.T. “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium on Sunday.
The loss gives LSU an 8-7 overall record, 1-5 in the SEC. Florida improves to 13-1 overall with the win, including a near perfect 4-1 in the SEC. The Gators only loss came at No. 3 Georgia.
“One of the best things that I have seen in this team so far this year is a tremendous amount of enthusiasm. For whatever reason, that lacked today. I give credit to Florida for coming out and taking care of business,” LSU head coach Tony Minnis said. “This was the first time I felt like we didn’t come with the belief and the attitude that we were going to get this done.”
Sophomores Megan Falcon and Mykala Hedberg improved their record as a duo to 3-0 as they defeated No. 59 Whitney Benik and Nina Suvak on court one, 8-6.
The Gators were still able to grab the doubles point as they won matches on courts two and three. Juniors Anastasiya Dubova and Tiffany Tucker fell first on court three to Lolita Frangulyan and Anastasia Revzina, 8-1.
Staten Spencer and Hannah Robinson lost on court two to Csilla Borsanyi and Diana Srebrovic, 8-3.
In singles play, Falcon remained undefeated on the season as she defeated No. 39 Diana Srebrovic in the No. 1 slot, 7-5, 6-2. This improves her record to 25-2 overall, 14-0 in the No. 1 slot in dual play and 6-0 in the SEC.
Florida dominated courts two through five. Freshman Nicole Kantor fell first on court three to the Gator’s 56th-ranked Borsanyi in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.
Benik grabbed the third point for the Gators as Robinson fell in straight sets on court five, 6-3, 6-2. Revzina clinched the match for Florida with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Spencer in the No. 3 slot.
Dubova and Heberg were retired to end the match. On court six, Dubova fell to Frangulyan, 6-3, 6-2. Suvak downed Hedberg on court two, 6-3, 6-3.
Up next, the Lady Tigers will host another SEC weekend as they welcome Ole Miss on Friday at 3 p.m. CT and Mississippi State on Sunday at 1 p.m. LSU will also make-up their match against in-state opponent Southern on Friday, immediately following the Ole Miss match at approximately 7 p.m.
