KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The road to rebound for the LSU men’s basketball team continues as LSU travels here for a Super Tuesday nationally televised date with the University of Tennessee at Thompson-Boling Arena at 8 p.m. CST (9 p.m. EST).
The game will be broadcast on ESPN and available on radio on the affiliates of the LSU Sports Radio Network (Eagle 98.1 FM in Baton Rouge). The radio broadcast is also available to subscribers in the “Geaux Zone” at LSUsports.net.
The Tigers will be looking to start climbing back from a 2-6 league placing in the Southeastern Conference Western Division, but in a year when the division is so dramatically topsy-turvy, the Tigers are just two games out of the lead held by Alabama at 4-4. LSU also sees a past precedent that it can be done, having started the 2003 season 1-6 and 3-8 before winning the final five games to finish at 8-8, win two games in the SEC Tournament and advance to the NCAA Tournament.
LSU showed its offensive ability again in the two losses last week, falling at home to Alabama, 73-70, and at Mississippi State, 85-78, in a game that Mississippi State hit 13 three-point field goals.
“We’ve got to find a way to win a game here pretty quickly,” said Coach John Brady. “It’s going to be tough on Tuesday night. We seem to have gotten better offensively, but we gave up a lot of threes against Mississippi State. We’ve just got to keep doing what we’re doing offensively, and try to play better defensively.”
Tennessee has lost three of the last four and is 15-8 and 3-5 in the Eastern Division after losing at Florida on Saturday. Coach Bruce Pearl has listed the league’s leading scorer, Chris Lofton (21.5 ppg) as probable after several games out with an ankle injury. LSU’s Glen Davis, averaging 18.5 points per game, is the league’s second-leading scorer.
The Tigers are convinced the season isn’t over by any stretch of the imagination and morale on the team is still good, according to Coach Brady.
“Our spirit is fine,” he said. “We just don’t have the consistency that is necessary right now to win against teams in this league, especially on the road. We’re not able to capitalize when things are going our way. Our team recognizes this and we’re doing all we can to work on that. I’m working with them. I don’t think you can focus too much on one game or another. We’re just trying to improve each day. Hopefully that will be good enough to get a win here pretty soon.”
Arkansas Game Time Change
The Tigers will return from Knoxville to begin a series of Saturday home games for the remainder of the month this Saturday against the University of Arkansas. The game time for Saturday’s regionally televised game is 2 p.m. as the second half of a doubleheader on Lincoln Financial Sports.
Tiger fans should note the change in game time from many publications that stated the game was originally at noon. Lincoln Financial and the SEC have moved the game to the second half of the doubleheader that day on the network.
Tickets are available for the game at the LSU Athletics Ticket Office and online at LSUsports.net. Those fans bringing a baseball ticket to the ticket window on Saturday from LSU’s opening weekend series with St. Mary’s will receive admission to the LSU-Arkansas basketball game for just $5. For those bringing an LSU-Arkansas basketball ticket to Alex Box Stadium on Saturday, you can receive admission to the noon baseball game for either $4 for adults or $2 for youth (3-12).
