TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — LSU’s eighth-ranked women’s basketball team used a 12-0 run midway through the second to pull away from Alabama and went on to win, 61-45, Sunday afternoon in Coleman Coliseum.

The Crimson Tide (10-11, 0-6 SEC) pulled to within three, 34-31, with 14:01 left in the game, but the Lady Tigers (18-2, 4-1 SEC) scored 17 of the next 19 points, that included the 12-0 run, to pull away for good.

“We were able to pull out a victory here today,” LSU head coach Pokey Chatman said. “But, it was not the complete effort that we are looking for. We talked to the team about understanding why we can not have those lapses in terms of our total concentration.”

LSU led 25-16 at halftime after using a 12-2 run to pull away from Alabama midway through the half, but Alabama scored the first five points of the second half to cut the lead to 25-21. The team then trade baskets before the 17-2 run that allowed LSU to pull away.
