LSU Duo Named LSWA Players of the Week

BATON ROUGE — LSU’s Glen Davis and Sylvia Fowles were named the Men’s and Women’s Player of the Week by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association, it was announced on Wednesday.

Davis, a 6-9 junior forward for the Tigers, averaged 17.5 points and 14.0 rebounds in LSU’s two games during the week. The Baton Rouge native poured in 24 points and grabbed 17 rebounds at Alabama, just days after suffering severely bruised ribs in a car accident. Davis also posted 11 points and 11 rebounds in a win over Auburn and now has nine double doubles this season.

Fowles, a 6-6 junior center for the Lady Tigers, averaged 20.5 points and 15.0 rebounds in LSU’s split in the state of Mississippi last week. The Miami, Fla., native scored a game-high 25 points and added a season-best 19 rebounds in the loss at Ole Miss and scored a game-high 16 points and grabbed 11 boards in the win at Mississippi State. Fowles moved into second-place on LSU’s career double doubles list with her two during the week and now has 46 total.

The LSWA selects a weekly Player of the Week for men’s and women’s basketball from a list of nominations submitted by the state schools.
