BATON ROUGE — LSU safety LaRon Landry found his way onto another postseason awards team on Friday as the senior defender was named the ESPN.com All-America team, the website announced.

Of his selection to the ESPN.com All-America team, ESPN’s Ivan Maisel said of Landry, “no one in college football plays center field like he does. On a team with tremendous defensive talent, Landry still roamed so fast and so sure that he led the Tigers in tackles with 68.”

Landry, a native of Ama, La., has been named First-Team All-America this year by the Associated Press, the American Football Coaches Association. He was a Second-Team All-America pick by the Walter Camp Football Foundation.

Landry, who was a Third-Team AP All-America in 2005, currently leads an LSU team that ranks No. 2 in the nation in total defense and No. 3 nationally in scoring defense with 68 tackles. Landry, who has started 47 consecutive games, also has 3.5 tackles for losses, two interceptions and a sack to his credit.

Landry recorded a season-best 12 tackles against Florida this year, which also included a blocked punt in the fourth quarter against the Gators. Landry also posted a team-high nine tackles, seven of which were solo, in the 31-26 win over No. 5 Arkansas. He added a fourth quarter interception against Arkansas that setup a Tiger touchdown just minutes later.

Other Southeastern Conference players on the ESPN.com All-America team include Ole Miss linebacker Patrick Willis, Florida safety Reggie Nelson, Arkansas running back Darren McFadden, Auburn offensive guard Ben Grubbs, and Tennessee wide receiver Robert Meachem.
