BATON ROUGE — LSU dropped out of the top 10 in week six of the men’s basketball polls, falling to 12 in the Associated Press poll and 15 in the ESPN/USA Today poll announced Monday.
The Tigers split a pair of games on the week to go to 5-2 on the season, defeating then No. 6 Texas A&M, 62-54, on Tuesday before losing an overtime thriller Sunday in Houston, 76-75, to the University of Texas. LSU was ranked ninth in the Associated Press poll and 11th in the ESPN/USA Today poll entering the week.
UCLA, Pittsburgh and North Carolina remain the top three teams with Florida the top SEC team, ranked fifth in both polls. Alabama is ninth in both polls while Washington, LSU’s opponent in Seattle on Dec. 20, is 14th in the coaches’ poll and 17th in the media poll.
The Tigers leave for a six-day swing through the Pacific Northwest on Friday at the conclusion of the team’s final exams, playing in Corvallis against Oregon State on Dec. 17 (Sunday) at 7 p.m. CST and Dec. 20 in Seattle against Washington (9:30 p.m. CST). Fox Sports Net will televise both games.
