BATON ROUGE — Tiger Garrett Temple and Lady Tiger Sylvia Fowles were named the LSU Male and Female Athletes of the Week Wednesday following a vote by a local media panel.
Temple, a guard on the Tigers’ basketball team, posted back-to-back career-high games as he helped his team to victories over in-state foes McNeese State and Tulane last week. Against the Cowboys, Temple was seven-of-11 from the field, scoring 17 points while adding four rebounds, four assists, three steals and a block.
The sophomore from Baton Rouge followed that performance with an 18-point outing in the Tigers’ win against the Green Wave. Temple also had six assists, three rebounds, two steals and a block in the performance.
Fowles, a center for the Lady Tigers’ basketball squad, also helped LSU to a pair of wins last week as she scored 17 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in the Lady Tigers’ victory over New Orleans. The Miami, Fla., native then poured in 26 points and collected nine rebounds in helping LSU to a win over Detroit.
With her performance, Fowles has now recorded 39 double-doubles during her career and has scored in double figures in 64 of her 81 career games. In addition, the junior now ranks among LSU’s all-time top 20 in career rebounds and points as she is listed at No. 9 with 823 rebounds and No. 19 with 1,147 points.
