BATON ROUGE — The first of three events between LSU athletic teams and Southeastern Conference rival Alabama begin at 3:30 p.m. Friday as the Tiger swimming and diving team faces off against the Crimson Tide in a dual meet at the LSU Natatorium.
Fans in attendance will be able to meet the LSU cheerleaders and Mike The Tiger prior to the meet. Admission is free to the public.
“It is an Alabama weekend on campus, so I think it is going to be exciting,” said head coach Adam Schmitt. “It will be a good dual (meet) against two rival teams. Both should be competitive.”
The LSU men are coming off a 175.5-108.5 victory over Delta State on Oct. 28, while the Lady Tigers turned in a solid performance in a 172-128 loss to No. 2 Florida on Thursday.
The Tigers captured 15 of the 16 men’s events against the Statesmen led by victories from freshman Will Rivers and sophomore Julius Gloeckner. Rivers was named LSU Male Student Athlete of the Week for his first-place finishes in the 200 freestyle (1:44.23) and the 500 free (4:33.24).
Meanwhile, senior diver Hali Saucier swept both diving events Friday against the Lady Gators and in the process shattered an eight-year-old school record in the 3-meter springboard. Saucier posted a score of 340.35 breaking Ashley Culpepper’s old record of 337.65 set in 1998.
Sophomore Katherine Noland recorded three individual victories, including wins in the 50 free, 100 free and 100 butterfly.
Last season, the LSU women’s team upset Alabama in Tuscaloosa by a score of 60-53. It was the first win by the Lady Tigers over the Crimson Tide since 1999.
