Romero, Holliday Named LSU Athletes of the Week

BATON ROUGE — Football’s Trindon Holliday and volleyball’s Daniela Romero were named the LSU Male and Female Athletes of the Week Tuesday following a vote by a local media panel.

Holliday, a freshman from Zachary, La., made the most of his one touch of the football Saturday against Arkansas as he returned a fourth-quarter kickoff 92 yards for a score in the Tigers’ 31-26 win over the Razorbacks. The kickoff return came just seconds after Arkansas had cut LSU’s led to 24-19 on an 80-yard run by Darren McFadden. Holliday’s return proved to be the winning points for the Tigers as it stretched LSU’s lead to 31-19 with just over 10 minutes to play.

Romero, a native of Arlington, Texas, was named to the SEC/Big East All-Tournament team last weekend after leading LSU to a pair of victories over St. John’s and Marquette. The setter guided the Tigers to a tournament best .355 hitting percentage, including a season-best .371 percentage against St. John’s.

Individually, Romero led the tournament in assists and service aces and with her performance she became just the eighth player in LSU history to record 1,000 career digs. In addition, Romero moved into fourth place on the Tigers’ all-time single-season assists list.
