Tyson Jackson Named SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week

BATON ROUGE — LSU defensive end Tyson Jackson has been named the Southeastern Conference Defensive Lineman of the Week for his performance in the Tigers’ 28-14 win over Alabama on Saturday.

The honor is the first of the year for Jackson, but the fourth for a Tiger defender this year. Defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey has twice been named the recipient of the honor, while defensive end Chase Pittman has won the award one time.

Against Alabama, Jackson paced a Tiger defense that limited the Crimson Tide to just 78 yards rushing with four tackles and a sack. He also batted down to Alabama passes at the line of scrimmage. Jackson’s sack ran his season total to 7.5, which ties him for fourth in the SEC.

For the year, Jackson has played and started in all 10 games for the Tigers. He has 30 tackles, 8.5 tackles for losses, 7.5 sacks and five quarterback hurries to his credit.

Other honors handed out by the SEC on Monday include Kentucky quarterback Andre’ Woodson (offensive player of the week); Georgia rover Tra Battle (defensive player of the week); Florida defensive end Jarvis Moss (special teams player of the week); Arkansas offensive tackle Tony Ugoh (offensive lineman of the week); and Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford (freshman of the week).
