BATON ROUGE — LSU’s 28-14 win over Alabama on Saturday impressed the pollsters more than the computers as the Tigers jumped three spots from No. 12 to No. 9 in this week’s Associated Press and USA Today Coaches Polls, which were released on Sunday.
The move put the Tigers back into the top 10 for the first time since Oct. 1 when LSU was ranked No. 9 in the AP poll following a 48-17 win over Mississippi State.
Despite its movement in the AP and Coaches Polls, the Tigers slide just one spot in the BCS Standings as LSU is No. 11 in this week’s standings. The Tigers have a computer ranking average of 13, which makes up one third of the BCS Standings formula. LSU’s BCS average this week is .6028, which puts the Tigers just percentage points of out eighth place in the standings. West Virginia is No. 8 in the BCS with an average of .6575.
The Tigers are one of three Southeastern Conference teams in the top 11 in the BCS led by No. 4 Florida. Arkansas, LSU’s opponent on Nov. 24, is No. 7 in the BCS.
Ohio State and Michigan continue to be ranked Nos. 1-2 in the BCS, while Southern Cal is No. 3, Florida No. 4 and Notre Dame No. 5.
The Tigers, winners of four straight, return to action on Saturday as they host Ole Miss at 7 p.m. in Tiger Stadium. LSU will bring an 8-2 overall mark and a 4-2 league record into the game, while the Rebels are 3-7 overall and 1-5 in conference action.
