Women's Golf Begins Final Stretch of Fall Season

Women’s Golf Finishes 13th in N.C.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The LSU women’s golf team finished up a tough weekend in North Carolina with their best round of the Lady Tar Heel Invitational and finished the 54-hole event over the Finley Golf Course with a 13-over par total of 301 and a tie for 13th place.

A first-round 319 put the 19th-ranked Lady Tigers in a hole they couldn’t overcome and added rounds of 310 and 301 to finish at 66-over par 930 to tie for the position with the College of Charleston.

Vanderbilt won the event with a 29-over total of 893, five shots better than Virginia at 34-over 898. Top-ranked Duke was third at 35-over 899.

Melissa Eaton finished her tournament on a good note for LSU with an even par round of 72 to lead the Lady Tigers on the final day. Eaton finished at 17-over 233. Also posting counting scores for LSU Sunday were Rebecca Kuhn at one-over 73, Kim Meck a third-straight 76 and Nicola Eaton and Alexis Rather with eight-over 80s. Meck had the best individual finish of a tie for 26th place.

Ashley Knoll of Texas A&M (73-72-69) and Caroline Westrup of Florida State (73-72-69) tied for the individual championship at two-under 214

“It was a tough weekend for us,” said LSU Coach Karen Bahnsen. “We’ve got to come back and work on the things that didn’t go right for us and get ready for our next event at the end of the month.”

LSU’s next tournament is the Auburn “Derby” Invitational, Oct. 27-29.
