CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The LSU women’s golf team improved its score by nine shots and moved up two place to the 14th spot after two rounds Saturday of the Lady Tar Heel Invitational at the Finley Golf Course.
LSU posted a second round of 310 after Friday’s 319 to stand at 53-over par 629. Vanderbilt posted a six-over 294 in the second round to take a three-shot lead in the tournament at 19-over par 595. No. 1-ranked Duke after a 295, is second at 598, while North Carolina had a 296 to stand at 600, 24-over par in third.
LSU’s problems in the second round came at the start of the round on holes 10-18, as the four counting scores were 17-over par. The Lady Tigers righted themselves on the front nine, going over the grounds in five over, but an opportunity to move further up the standings was lost early in the round.
Kim Meck had her second four-over 76 of the tournament for co-best of the day for LSU along with Melissa Eaton, while Alexis Rather posted a 78 and Rebecca Kuhn an 80.
Meck finished the round in 25th place in the individual competition which is led by Jennie Lee of Duke at even par after back-to-back rounds of 144, two players are one shot back at 145.
The final round of the tournament begins with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
