Women’s Golf Struggles on Day 1 at Lady Tar Heel

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — It was one day the LSU Lady Tiger wish the rain would have kept on falling.

The Lady Tar Heel Invitational got off to a two and a half hour delay because of rain and lightning and when play finally started, the Lady Tigers were unable to do much positive throughout the five player lineup.

The Lady Tigers found themselves on the bad end of six counting double-bogeys and one quadruple bogey as they posted the highest score in quite some time, a 31-over 319 in the first round of the 54-hole tournament.

LSU is in 16th place in the 17-team tournament on a day when no team bested 300, a rarity these days in women’s golf. Vanderbilt is the leader at 13-over par 301, one shot better than Tennessee at 302 with No. 1 ranked Duke and Virginia tied at 303. Host North Carolina rounds out the top five at 16-over 304.

Junior Kim Meck had the best score of the day for the Lady Tigers a four-over 76 and is in a tie for 21st place after 18 holes. LSU also counted a 79 from Rebecca Kuhn, an 80 from Melissa Eaton and an 84 from Alexis Rather.

The tournament continues Saturday morning at 8 a.m. with live scoring on golfstat.com
