BATON ROUGE — Swimmer Will Rivers and diver Hali Saucier were selected as the LSU Male and Female Athletes of the Week Tuesday following a vote by a local media panel.
Saucier turned in the best dual-meet performance of her career in a win against Delta State this past weekend. The senior from Gig Harbor, Wash., swept the 1-meter and 3-meter springboards with career-high scores. Saucier, who won the 3-meter at the SMU Classic in her last outing, posted the second-highest 3-meter tally in school history and was seven points off of the school record with a score of 330.98. She then took the 1-meter with the fourth-highest total in school history (303.52).
Saucier has won five out of the six events she has participated in this season, which includes a sweep at defending national champion Auburn.
Rivers, a freshman from Elgin, Texas, led the Tigers’ swimming and diving team to a victory over Delta State this past weekend. Rivers won the 200 freestyle (1:44.23) and later out touched LSU All-American Julius Gloeckner to win the 500 free (4:33.24). Rivers already owns the sixth-fastest time in school history in the 1000 free.
