AUBURN, Ala. — The LSU women’s golf team finishes its fall season with two of the early season’s premier events starting Friday with first round play in the Auburn Tiger-Derby Invitational at the Auburn University Club at Yarbrough Farms.

The event will be LSU’s final stroke play event of the fall before concluding the fall season Nov. 3-5 at the Hooters National Match Play Championships in Orlando, Fla.

Auburn leads the field at No. 4 in the nation, while LSU comes in ranked 24th in the latest Golfstat numbers. Joining them are eight other ranked teams: Tennessee (7), North Carolina (13), Florida State (17), Florida (22), Furman (31), South Carolina (38), Nebraska (40) and Birmingham-Southern (44). Also in the field are Alabama, Texas, Central Florida, Ole Miss, Kansas and Mississippi State.

The 11th annual tournament is named after Curtis Cup Champion and former Auburn player and coach, Virginia Derby-Grimes.

LSU will go with the same five players for the fourth fall tournament — senior twins Melissa and Nicola Eaton and the junior trio of Rebecca Kuhn, Kim Meck and Alexis Rather. Melissa Eaton leads the team in stroke average at 74.2 strokes per round, while Meck and Kuhn are both averaging 75 strokes through the first nine rounds of the season. The team is averaging a score of 300.4 for the four-player team counting scores.

“We have been off for a couple of week and working hard on the little things to get ready for this final two week stretch of the fall,” said LSU Coach Karen Bahnsen. “This is a very strong tournament field and we look forward to seeing where we stand entering the match play competition.”

LSU tees off first with Alabama and Florida at 7:45 a.m. CDT Friday and live scoring for the event can be found at www.golfstat.com.
