Saucier Wins Springboard at SMU Classic

DALLAS — Senior diver Hali Saucier won the 3-meter springboard Saturday night as the LSU women’s swimming and diving team concluded the SMU Classic in sixth place.

The Lady Tigers accumulated 229 points during the two-day meet, while host SMU edged 14th-ranked Florida State, 328-318, to win the meet. No. 13 Wisconsin (288) finished in third, followed by Alabama (258) and Virginia Tech (253).

Saucier, who took runner-up honors in the 1-meter on Friday, was brilliant in her 3-meter performance. The Gig Harbor, Wash., native posted a convincing score of 288.50 to earn 16 points. She defeated Florida State’s Aleia Monden by a margin of 29.50 points.

Freshman Lauren Grandy placed sixth in the 500 freestyle championship final (5:05.40), and sophomore Sarah Dicharry was 12th in the consolation final (5:14.62). Dicharry was LSU’s highest finisher in the 200 individual medley by placing sixth (2:11.88).

Sophomores Berit Aljand and Katie Gilmore took fifth and 11th, respectively in the 200 backstroke with times of 2:05.23 and 2:08.83.

Freshman Signe Larson took sixth in the 200 breaststroke championship final (2:22.02), while Tulane transfer Victoria Givens was 10th (2:26.26).

Sophomore Katherine Noland touched the wall in the 100 free with a time of 53.07, giving her a sixth-place finish. Senior Colleen Bertirotti was eighth in a clocking of 52.47.

Noland, Bertirotti, Gilmore and Grandy helped LSU to a fourth-place finish in the 200 free relay (1:36.00), the final event of the meet.

The Lady Tigers return home to host Delta State on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 2 p.m.
