FORT WOTH, Texas — The LSU women’s tennis team completed a successful first day at the ITA Regional Championships as one Lady Tiger advanced in the singles draw and two duos advanced in the doubles draw.
In singles play, junior Tiffany Tucker defeated her first two opponents in straight sets. Tucker opened play against Texas-Pan American’s Sarah Burton and won that match 6-0, 6-1. In her next match, she fought hard to grab the win against UTPA’s Brooke Mills, 6-2, 7-5.
Freshman Sloane Mathis fought hard in her first match against the No. 5 seed Megan Schumulbach from North Texas, but she could not grab the win as she fell in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. Mathis advanced in the consolation bracket with a walkover.
In doubles play, No. 7 seed sophomore Megan Falcon and freshman Hannah Robinson defeated TCU’s Weronika Bloczynska and Katherine Palider, 8-5.
Lady Tiger juniors Tucker and Anastasiya Dubova also won their match against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi’s Carmen Abeaboeru and Alexandra Dyckman, 8-3.
Sophomore Mykala Hedberg and freshman Nicole Kantor were not as successful as they fell to Sam Houston State’s Lata Assudani and Irina Sotnikova.
Play will resume Friday at 9:30 a.m.
