BATON ROUGE — LSU returned to the practice field on Monday as the Tigers held one final workout before Tuesday night’s major scrimmage in Tiger Stadium.

LSU’s practice on Monday had the eighth-ranked Tigers working out for two hours in shells (shorts and shoulder pads). Tuesday’s scrimmage will be the final one for the Tigers as LSU will turn its attention to the season-opening contest against Louisiana-Lafayette starting on Wednesday.

“It was a good day, just kind of getting their feet back underneath them,” LSU coach Les Miles said of his squad following the practice. “We are looking forward to a nice go on Tuesday. There will be some guys that won’t go long, but the majority of the players will go fulltime.”

Miles said he expects wide receiver Craig Davis and offensive guard Will Arnold to participate on Tuesday after sitting out Saturday’s scrimmage.

“There will be some guys that are nicked that will probably be in there for 10 or 12 snaps,” Miles said. “Buster Davis will probably get limited snaps, but not many guys will be limited.”

Unlike Saturday’s “thud” scrimmage (no tackling), Tuesday night will have the Tiger defenders tackling for most of the workout. LSU will also use Tuesday night to focus on different situations on both sides of the football, while also spending time devoted to special teams.

“We will put them in different situations,” Miles said. “We are looking at execution in different parts of our offense, defense and special teams. We are going to tackle and get a look at our ball security as well as making sure we have no issues on the defensive side. We will tackle for about three quarters of the time.”
