EULESS, Texas — LSU senior women’s golfer Melissa Eaton put herself in a good spot, finishing the first round of the Collegiate Players Tour National Championship in third place Tuesday at the Texas Star Golf Course.
Eaton, winner of the Baton Rouge area CPT stop earlier in the summer, posted a two-over 73 in the opening round of the 72-hole event that runs through Friday. Sharla Cloutier is the first round leader at three-under 68, ahead of Christy Carter of Tulsa at one-over 72.
Nicola Eaton, also an LSU senior golfer who is the twin sister of Melissa, is 14th after the opening round in the field of 19, with a nine-over par round of 80.
The second round is scheduled to begin Wednesday morning.
