J.C. Politz — whose voice gave witness to the greatest play in LSU football history — died Tuesday.

He was 81.

Politz was at the microphone for LSU football’s radio broadcast Halloween night 1959 and called Billy Cannon’s fourth-quarter, 89-yard punt return for a touchdown that beat Ole Miss 7-3 in Tiger Stadium.
