Men's Golf Set to Defend Title at Shoal Creek

Troutmen, Men’s Golf Jump Three Spots at Bulls Bay

AWENDAW, S.C. — Junior Chris Wells and sophomore Beck Troutman each capitalized on favorable scoring conditions Monday to move into a tie for 12th place after the second round of the second annual Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate at Bulls Bay Golf Club.

Troutman fired the lowest round of the tournament for the Tigers thus far with a 2-under par 69, while Wells followed with a 1-under 70 to tie with four other golfers at 1-over 143 for the tournament. Senior Andrew Lanahan rebounded from a 7-over 78 in the first round with a 1-over 72 in the second to sit in a tie for 61st.

The Tigers shaved 13 strokes off their first-round team total with a 3-over 287 on Monday to move into a tie for 13th place overall with 18th-ranked Kentucky heading into the final round.

Wake Forest has separated itself from the rest of the field after following its first-round score of 9-under 275 with a 7-under 277 in the second round for a two-day total of 16-under 552. The Demon Deacons hold a commanding 10-stroke lead over the South Carolina Gamecocks heading into Tuesday’s final round.

Webb Simpson of Wake Forest leads the individual competition by a single stroke over Jamie Miller of Augusta State with a two-round total of 9-under 133, including a 6-under 65 in the second round. But it was Miller who fired the round of the day with a tournament record 7-under 64 on Monday. First-round leaders Eirik Tage Johansen of South Carolina and Doug Manchester of Wake Forest are currently in third and fourth place, respectively.

The Tigers are paired with Southeastern Conference rivals Auburn and Kentucky in the final round and will tee off from the 10th tee beginning at 7:30 a.m. CST. Live scoring of Tuesday’s play will be provided by www.golfstat.com.
