Lady Tigers Tennis Picked to Win SEC West

Women’s Tennis Swept by No. 6 Florida

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The LSU women’s tennis team suffered another Southeastern Conference loss Sunday at the hands of sixth-ranked Florida, 7-0, at Linder Stadium at Ring Tennis Complex.

The loss gives LSU a .500 record, now 8-8 (0-6 SEC) on the year. Florida improves to 12-1 overall with the win, including a perfect 6-0 in conference action. They also improve their all-time record at home against SEC opponents to 129-1.

“We played well today, but Florida is playing some incredible tennis,” LSU head coach Tony Minnis. “Our effort was there, but Florida’s level of play and intensity was great.”

Injuries continue to plague the Lady Tigers, as it was Daysi Espinal whose knee gave her problems Sunday, giving her opponents default wins in both singles and doubles.

LSU lost on the two other doubles courts as well. The No. 47 duo of Diana Srebrovic and Lolita Frangulyan handed Marina Chiarelli and Anastasiya Dubova a loss, 8-1, on the two court, and Whitney Benik and Alex Lyles bested Mykala Hedberg and Tiffany Tucker, 8-2, on the one court.

Florida was dominant in singles play as well, winning all five matches other than Espinal’s default in straight sets.

Alex Liles defeated Tucker, 6-1, 6-1, for the Gators’ third point on court four. Fourth-ranked Srebrovic clinched the match for Florida with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Hedberg in the No. 1 slot.

The Florida match concludes LSU’s competition against SEC Eastern Division opponents. The Lady Tigers face their first Western Division foes next weekend with trips to Ole Miss and Mississippi State.

“Im looking forward to seeing some new competition,” Minnis said. “We need to regroup and look forward to our matches in Mississippi this weekend.”
