BATON ROUGE — The Tiger and Lady Tiger track and field teams return to action this Friday afternoon when they host the LSU Twilight at the Carl Maddox Fieldhouse.
Competition, which features 15 teams, will begin at 3 p.m. with the field events. Running events will follow at 6 p.m.
LSU will use Friday’s competition and the remainder of the weekend to put the finishing touches on preparations for next week’s SEC Indoor Championships in Gainesville, Fla.
“We are going to do what I think we need to do in preparation for the SECs,” said LSU head coach Dennis Shaver. “With travel and a pair of two-day meets in the last 14 days we’ve only had the opportunity to get in four really good days of training.
“At this point, for some athletes it will be more valuable to get in three quality workouts, so those that have already achieved marks that will get them into the NCAA Championships will just train through the weekend.”
LSU will still have plenty of impressive performers on the track at week’s end.
All-American Jessica Ohanaja will lead a pack of Lady Tigers in the 60-meter hurdles. Ohanaja, who has already provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships, will look to improve on her personal best and season best mark of 8.25.
On the men’s side, freshman Trindon Holliday and All-American Richard Thompson among others will be seeking their first provisional marks of the season in the 60-meter dash.
In the field, provisional qualifiers Shaunette Davidson and Kathy Coleman will look to improve their position on the NCAA’s descending order list, competing in the high jump and the long jump, respectively.
For the men, sophomore Rabun Fox looks to continue his ascent in the Tiger record books as he is slated to participate in the weight throw, while freshman Ricky Jean-Francois eyes his first NCAA provisional mark of the season in the shot put.
Following the LSU Twilight the Tigers and Lady Tigers begin the indoor championship season, traveling to Gainesville, Fla., for the SEC Championships, Feb. 24-26.
